WE LOVE DOUGHNUTS !

Just because I am addicted to doughnuts, there are worse things. DO-NUT JUDGE ME! These sweet confections are a part of the American culture and although not the healthiest of breakfast options, they are favorite choice for many. They have been around for many years and although the origin of the doughnut is disputed, one theory suggests that they were invented in North American in the 19 th century. They were called olkienkoek , a Dutch word that literally means "Oil cake, a sweetened cake friend in fat." The first cookbook to mention doughnuts was an English 1803 volume that included doughnuts as part of the American recipes. And, one of the first known recorded usage of the term was in 1809 in Washington Irving's HISTORY OF NEW YORK , were he described "balls of sweetened dough, fried in hog's fat, and call doughnuts or "olykoeks." The acceptable abbreviation of doughnut is donut. It has been used interchangeably since 1900, first seen in Peck's Bad Boy and his Pa by George W. Peck. Since then, it has become more popularized by Dunkin' Donuts, so-named in 1950. Since doughnuts are a favorite staple in the American diet, it is no wonder that it is now taking its turn in being glamorized in new gourmet doughnut shops across the country. Doughnut shops are including every type of topping imaginable and even serving them with fun cocktails in places such as The Doughnut Lounge, in Kansas City, where we were decided to do our fun photo shoot for our 2017 Spring/Summer catalog. Seeing the trend in doughnuts, we wanted to feature our newest doughnut socks on the cover. We had a great time sampling the unusual and delicious assortment of doughnuts as we worked and ate our way through the shoot. Doughnuts will only continue to rise in popularity with the recent launch of David Lynch's TWIN PEAKS that premiered this week on Showtime. The show, popular in the 1990's, included doughnuts as an iconic feature throughout the story. Doughnuts are part of the sheriff department's culture. They represent the sweetness of small town America, but contrast sharply with the corrupt underbelly of the Twin Peaks dark plot. So as you try new doughnut flavors and settle in to watch Twin Peaks, don't forget to wear a comfortable pair of Foot Traffic's newest doughnut socks and get ready for a comfy, culinary corrupt adventure. And, if you are eager to celebrate National Doughnut day on Friday, June 2, for sure get a pair of our novelty men's and women's novelty socks and celebrate this fun day with other doughnut lovers!
