We're Geeking Out Over These Nerd-tastic Socks!

We're Geeking Out Over These Nerd-tastic Socks!

Wear your nerdiness proudly in footwear from Foot Traffic.

According to Merriam-Webster, the first written use of the word nerd occurred in the book If I Ran the Zoo by Dr. Seuss, published in 1950:

"And then, just to show them, I'll sail to Ka-troo
And bring back an It-kutch, a Preep and a Proo,
A Nerkle, a Nerd, and a Seersucker, too!"

In this instance, a Nerd is some kind of imaginary creature worthy of capture for the narrator's imaginary zoo. But shortly after that book came out, Newsweek published an article on the latest slang, which included the word nerd. In this instance, the article noted that the term referred to "someone who once would be called a drip or a square..." How the word made that jump is unknown. But the word nerd has undergone many changes in meaning since then, and today we're happy to say that being a nerd is kind of cool. In fact, many who earn the moniker wear it proudly. Being a nerd now implies that you're super-smart in areas where others aren't -- like books, words, numbers, science, space, and technology.

Spacing Out

There's nothing more captivating than outer space. At Foot Traffic, we have the "final frontier" covered. Kids love wearing our kids' constellation socks to school when the class is learning about the Big Dipper, Little Dipper, Pegasus, and Leo. These socks also come in a youth version for older kids. Learning about the planets? Then wear our planets socks instead. They come in sizes that fit everyone in the family, so you can all geek out together.

Sputnik 1 was the first artificial Earth satellite launched into space in 1957. The satellite was only about the size of a beach ball, but it marked the start of something big -- the Space Age. That's quite an achievement! We created our Sputnik women's socks to celebrate this event. Maybe wearing these socks will inspire you to start something big, too!

Are you into UFOs? If so, check out Foot Traffic's Alien Abduction socks. These funny socks show a cow being sucked up into an alien spaceship. They're perfect for the next nostalgic viewing of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
