MEMORIAL DAY

MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day weekend is upon us and because it is a national holiday, most of us will enjoy an extra day of vacation as we celebrate on Monday, May 27. Yeah! The holiday originated after the Civil War to honor those men and women in the military who died while serving our country, originally called Decoration Day when citizens were encouraged to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. In 1971, the last Monday in May became the nationally recognized day that we continue to celebrate each year. We also continue to decorate the graves of soldiers with flags and flowers, honoring their memory. We also think of Memorial Day weekend as the end of school and the beginning of summer and those reasons give us a great excuses to get together with friends and family to eat, drink, and party. So have a great time together but remember, at 3:00 local time across the country we are asked to give a minute of silence to honor those thousands of military members who have died for our country. Be safe and have a wonderful weekend. "Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it." Mark Twain
