The Lazy Person’s Guide to Halloween: 3 Easy Costumes That Start With Your Socks

It's Halloween season, and deciding what costume to buy or make challenges us every year. Let's make it incredibly easy for all of us who want to participate, but don’t have the capacity to go all out.

The secret? Start from the feet up with fun socks and slipper socks. Here are three easy examples: Take the lead from cat, ladybug, or penguin socks and add just a couple of quick accessories and your outfit is done! It is fun, comfortable, and guaranteed to bring a smile to everyone's face.

1. The Purr-fectly Lazy Cat

This classic look is cozy, cute, and requires zero wardrobe stress. You can make it your own with either leggings or a skirt, whatever you have.

Option A: Pair our cat socks or slipper socks with a comfortable, all-black sweater and leggings combo and of course the socks.

Option B: Wear a black top and a short skirt, then pull on our adorable over-the-knee cat socks.

The DIY Touch: Paint some whiskers on your cheeks with make up you have like black eyeliner and create quick ears using felt and a black headband.

Items you will need:

  • Cat socks, slipper socks, or over-the-knee socks
  • Black leggings or a black skirt
  • Black top or sweater
  • A headband with fabric or felt for the ears
  • Black makeup pencil for your whiskers

2. The Spot-On Ladybug

Let your feet tell the story with this cheerful idea. Bonus tip: Our slipper socks have non-slip pads on the bottom, so they act almost like shoes if you are attending an indoor party!

The Outfit: Put on your ladybug socks or slipper socks, black leggings, and a vibrant red top.

The DIY Touch: Cut out black paper circles (try tracing around a tea light candle for a perfect shape or whatever circle you have) and tape them to your red shirt putting tape on the back side of the circles.

The Antennae: Use black pipe cleaners to shape easy antennae  If you don't have a black headband, you can easily wrap the pipe cleaners around any color headband to cover it up!

Items you will need:

  • Ladybug socks or slipper socks
  • Black leggings and a red top
  • Black construction paper and tape
  • A round household object (like a candle) to trace
  • A headband and black pipe cleaners

3. The Chilled-Out Penguin

Channel your inner penguin with a sharp "tuxedo" look made entirely from clothes you already own.

The Outfit: Match your penguin socks or slipper socks with black  leggings, a white collared shirt, and a black open sweater or blazer.

The Accessories: Tie a red ribbon around your collar to create a red bowtie.

The DIY Touch: Cut a yellow paper triangle to make a quick beak, attach a string, and tie it on! Here is a simple illustration to make the beak out of yellow construction paper.

  • Penguin socks or slipper socks
  • Black leggings or pants
  • White collared shirt
  • Black open sweater or blazer
  • Red ribbon for the bowtie
